A sort of disc two of the pair recorded by the trio. All the songs were recorded the same 2 days as Heavy Handed in 2012.

Track 1 is The Mystery’s Slow Revelation. A love song about the way a love epic rolls out over time. Many self-referential melodic quotations woven together.

Track 2 is the title track What Do I Got To Do. A vocal song played instrumentally. It’s about devotion, steadfastness and following through on your vows.

Track 3 Goes Around Comes Around is a well known composition of mine in the local scene. I wrote it some 25 years ago. Tempus fugit. The song is a tonal description of Karma. Using line cliches and slightly exotic chords, the inner voices move from F to E to Eb and around and around. There are other inner voices doing it too… hear ‘em if you can find ‘em.

Track 4 Unabashed Beauty is meant to exude just that. Strays meets Ben all the way. Common tone modulations galore. The most mellow song on both discs.

Track 5 Answer Dancer has become mildly popular amongst my peers. I love Luther’s drum solo on this one. We get the banshee to come out and scream. If you’ve ever raised young children then you know how many questions you must juggle.

Track 6 closes it out with When the King Die. A phrase we all got from our pan man mentor Mackie. Love that guy and miss him deeply. This is a dark and heavy bass line I lifted from Jamaica. I added a polytonal melody and unexpected bridge. We solo over the bass line and try to get to that late Trane place. Ken really eats this up and it goes positively Sci-Fi. Luther gives a beat-down drum solo… punishing!

Listening back to these records I think the performances stand the test of time.
